Warcross- Marie Lu

“Hideo smiles at me, truly smiles, in a way that brightens his eyes. His gaze wanders across my face. He is so close now that, if he wanted, he could lean forward and kiss me- and I find myself leaning toward him, too, hoping that he’ll close the gap between us.”

I’m always amazed at the books I read after attending a conference. This isn’t the typical book that you would find on my bookshelf, but I’m glad that these events broaden my horizon in the book world.

A book about VR gameplay would have me look the other way, but everyone buzzed about this book so much that I couldn’t say no at Book Expo.

I’m very proud to say that I really enjoyed this one. I have never read anything by this author and I’m ashamed at myself for it. Her writing flows in a perfect way to immerse you into the full story. It doesn’t even let up after you finish.

Little by little Emika has been losing things that are close to her. After losing her dad, she has been struggling to try to stay afloat. She spends her time being a bounty hunter for people who are breaking the rules/gambling illegally in Warcross. But that hasn’t been paying off lately. She has three days to come up with a few thousand dollars or else she’s out on the street with her roommate.

During the opening games for Warcross, Emika hacks into the game and thinks she’s hidden when her need for money becomes stronger than her conscience. She steals an high priced item from the game to resell, but as she takes it she becomes visible for all the world to see.

Freaking out after she’s been spotted, she receives weird phone calls and texts from an unknown number. She finally gives up and calls the number. Not believing it when she calls, she’s patched through to the creator of Warcross, Hideo Tanaka. The glitch caught his attention and he wants to talk to the girl behind this problem.

As Hideo talks to Emika, he makes her an offer that is extremely difficult to refuse. He sweeps her off to Tokyo to help him uncover the severe security problems that could ruin him and Warcross forever.

As Emika starts to uncover the darkest secrets and inner workings of the game, something more evil is lurking in the shadows.

I instantly fell in love with Emika. She was a total badass who kicked your ass first and didn’t care about your name.

Marie Lu sure knows how to pack a punch. If you thought you knew things, you better think again. This is high action packed with a twist and a hint of romance. The way she delivers these incredible details is brilliant and I can’t wait for book two.

I’ll never doubt anyone ever again!
Are you ready for Warcross?

Penguin got some of the hottest authors together to write stories for D.C. Characters. First we were blessed with Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo and we fell in love. Now we are going to fall all over again for Batman by Marie Lu. And I bring you the glorious cover reveal….

Product Description

The new, eagerly anticipated BATMAN YA novel is an action-packed thrill ride that could only be penned by #1 New York Times bestselling author MARIE LU.

Before he was Batman, he was Bruce Wayne. A reckless boy willing to break the rules for a girl who may be his worst enemy.

The Nightwalkers are terrorizing Gotham City, and Bruce Wayne is next on their list.

One by one, the city’s elites are being executed as their mansions’ security systems turn against them, trapping them like prey. Meanwhile, Bruce is turning eighteen and about to inherit his family’s fortune, not to mention the keys to Wayne Enterprises and all the tech gadgetry his heart could ever desire. But after a run-in with the police, he’s forced to do community service at Arkham Asylum, the infamous prison that holds the city’s most brutal criminals.

Madeleine Wallace is a brilliant killer . . . and Bruce’s only hope.

In Arkham, Bruce meets Madeleine, a brilliant girl with ties to the Nightwalkers. What is she hiding? And why will she speak only to Bruce? Madeleine is the mystery Bruce must unravel. Haunting the deep Adriana Mather

Ahh yes going back into this world woot woot last book was a very big time fall read. I remember day I started book one it was pouring out just like the cover of book one. But going in I was excited for this since its same cast again your big group of mis fits of the descendants. To start 6 months has past since Samantha Mather helped save Salem and the descendants from a hanging that there old family happened or caused it. Thing with this book that it has scenes to titanic not many authors will go for that but Adriana one day found a letter from her family that was right after that said they survived with the Harper’s which most know as one of people who started Harper Collins. But the story telling makes it feel like your on the ship pre days to its sinking and all the ghostly feels of in town. And Adriana makes story so livid. Unlike book 1 this book flows and it’s extremely mysterious unlike book one which unsure what was going on so made it very enjoyable. And wished this wasn’t last book in this series but hope she comes back one day. But def loved loved loved it and much better than book one.

Wonder Women by Leigh Bardugo

Ok I’ll get to this book in a second but as a FYI to all fans don’t murder me but the thing is wait for it….. Wait for it.. I have not once read any comics, books or movies with wonder women in it. I’m not a big super hero person. So coming in I don’t know much so I was learning the world and such as I went besides being the real world. Now onto the book it starts with Diana she is a Amazon as they are called in the book with super strength and all that show hero shibang. And starts off come on the island and a running race between all the top Amazon people as Diana is racing she finds a ship that is sinking from a bomb explosion. And Diana goes to see if can help even though that’s compleatly against there code and if get caught helping a Human she will forever be banned from living there. As you learn thru person Diana helps rescue is a war bringer. Which it lives past a age she will cause a war and destruction. They don’t know till odd things happen on island now it’s there quest for Diana to help save the world and alia’s life. That’s the story, my take now I was some what bored at the start since just seemed like circles and no plot but finally near 125 it picks up and gets good since add the action to a few jokes here and there since Diana is learning something new of the mortal world and all that. But the book from then on is how you expect them to add in a touch of mythology to the mix and seeing how that’s described was cool and who knows which one’s you’ll meet. Overall slow start to ok-pretty good coming from a person who doesn’t like super hero stuff. So worth a read and get better idea of the world wonder women and light read. 4/5 stars ~~~~ JUSTIN

Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow

This book. All I gotta say is wow!!! Stacy hinted and hinted not much but to try this book out so I finally did. And the book is amazing, I tend to stick to my fluffy reads but figured change of pace but you follow a girl named Charlie starts off as she is waking up in a hospitial she is in since trying  to commit Suicide. Thru her journey you learn you gotta take small steps, and just because people talk to you doesn’t mean there going to be your friend. And sometimes just need to learn just help your self not others. Plus this book not for me exactly i don’t cut but i dated someone who did and shows how maybe what’s going thru the mind of the cutter and try to give help and show them they can have support and help guide them away. But I suggest everyone Atleast to give this book a change and might change your mind on some aspects of people and such. I’ll remember this book for awhile. 5/5 stars ~~~~~JUSTIN

Vampire Academy: 10th Anniversary Edition- Richelle Mead

“If you weren’t so psychotic, you’d be fun to hang around.”

My friend, Justin is in love with this series and this author. I think when I told him that I have never read anything by her, he had a crap attack. Mead, Mead, Mead, Mead, Mead is all I have heard and I finally cracked under the pressure.

Looking at the previous covers for this book, I was turned away. But with the rerelease for the anniversary, this cover is absolutely gorgeous. So, when I found this I had to buy it. Then if I didn’t read it soon enough that same friend would have fainted.

No fainting and/or attacks need to happen. Seeeee!!!

When you start a book off with,“I felt her fear before I heard her screams” you know you’re in for quite the ride. You read alittle more and you get an entire range of sights and sounds. High school academy dramarama, cattiness, harsh rumors and even hot firey forbidden romance. Hehehe!

This anniversary edition includes the original novel and then bonus stories for some of your favorite characters. You feel that you’re let into a secret society, knighted by a sword and sworn to secrecy.

Rose and Lissa are on the run. They ran away from the academy and it’s been two years. Going that long without being caught comes with over the shoulder consequences. Until you have a guardian who makes it his personal business to bring back the last remaining heir to the Dragomir name.

Guardian Dimitri finds those two, taking all leads seriously and brings them back.

Lissa is welcomed back while Rose faces the harsh punishment of taking Lissa away from safe shelter and school. Rose is on house arrest and only allowed to attend school and training with the long haired gorgeous one Dimitri. *sound the tension alarm*

Lissas popularity plummeted once she was gone. Mia, a nobody took her ex-bf and makes her life and Roses a living hell. Never double cross any petty girl named Mia.

The more training that happens, the more Roses heart speeds up, words get caught in her throat and she gets sweaty. Do we detect reciprocal affection?

As forbiddeness blooms, evil and bloody things appear for Lissa to find and it sends her into shock mode. But a secret that no one should know about can damage peoples lives as we know it.

Will life ever get back to normal for these two?

This was surprisingly good. I’m shocked. I enjoyed the story and the tension. I even texted a friend to find out about two characters hooking up and he won’t spill. But you can’t write fantastic tension like that and let it go.

What stopped this from being five stars was Mia. Her pettiness over a boy was too over the top and kind of annoying.

If you are apprehensive about this book, give it a try. I was and I’m glad I have a great friend lead me in the right direction.
