*Blog Tour- Review + Giveaway* The Ruin of Kings- Jenn Lyons

Welcome to our official stop on the blog our. We hope you enjoy!!

39863237     There are the old stories. And then there’s what actually happens.

Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew up on storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn’t what the storybooks promised.

Far from living the dream, Kihrin finds himself practically a prisoner, at the mercy of his new family’s power plays and ambitions. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins.

Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin isn’t destined to save the empire.

He’s destined to destroy it . . .

Uniting the worldbuilding of a Brandon Sanderson with the storytelling verve of a Patrick Rothfuss, debut author Jenn Lyons delivers an entirely new and captivating fantasy epic. Prepare to meet the genre’s next star.

My Review:
”The mountain will bury you in lava, the molten rocks will be your tomb. You will spend eternity screaming in despair and pain. You will never know peace.”

Imagine everything you’ve been told and taught was a total fabrication. And the only way you learn the truth is with total destruction and gore. This is exactly how Kihrin learns the truth. That maybe he isn’t supposed to be that hero but the villain who sets the world ablaze.

The characters were really built up and you learn so much about them in such a short period of time. The backstories were something that continued to grow and I don’t think we’re quite done yet. But the different pov’s was a tad bit confusing and takes some time to get used to but once you make it things start to get better.

The Ruin of Kings is a slow-burn complex epic fantasy with fascinating world building and a dark, deep storyline that is rather unique. Fantasy lovers will rejoice at this said-be hero who was truly meant for villainy.

Beware of the Demon who screams at you in all caps!!

Book Expo 2018

Book Expo took place in NYC at the Javits Center this year. For me that meant a 14 hour car ride. I could have flown but that’s too many books to ship home and who knows what kind of condition they’ll be in when they get there.

Three days of the exhibit floor was kind of exhausting but worth every single mile walked. I paired up with some great girlfriends. If it wasn’t for them then I wouldn’t have gotten to bring home so much. Book Expo is always better when you can tackle it with friends. Thank you, Melissa and Stephanie.

There was a lot of good but also some bad. The bad being some popular people cutting lines and acting like they were royalty. That really angered a lot of us. All the amazing books we got to take home really made up for it.

Another bad thing was witnessing this guy dog ear pages in his book. I cringed every time. Get a freaking bookmark!!!

Now on to the good!!

Are you ready to see my haul!? Well, here it is!!

😍😍😍 I know! And we all know what my first read was from this haul. And let me tell you, that book was phenomenal!! (Review coming soon) Most we’re easily obtainable but there was one that was a mad dash with a secret password. It was worth the sweat and the elbows.

As always, Book Expo was fun and exhausting. I got to see friends who I love dearly and who I also haven’t seen in a year. I missed all of them so much.

If you have a suggestion on what I should read, please let me know!!

Happy Reading!!

Boston teen book festival September 23rd, 2017

This was my second year going and still it’s a blast. All the authors they had rivaled like yallfest for top names. Some examples are Victoria aveyard,Leigh bardugo, Susan dennard, Adam silvera and many more. But day or night starts practically at 11 Friday night leave my friends Jens house to start. The many many hours of driving. So go to philly pa to Long Island to get my friend Laura. It’s 1:15. This is point we left sorta to early as it’s middle of the night so we drive north to Boston. We end up getting near the fest at 5:30 am. Oops 🙊 my bad their. And plus we all know road trips equal edm x) I said have music prepared I’ll share their was none. So all get their sorta grumpy ish go to Starbucks and a hunt of a public bathroom 🚽. On our way we found Harvard the college so that was fun/ funny since jen and Laura were being tourist for the school I try not to be so I was playing with my first fidget spinner . Yup I did not take one photo. Finally that’s done and go to front of the Latin school

And wait for all authors to sign in. So that’s fun since can say good morning yadda yadda. Susan dennard and Amanda foody chatted for extra 10 seconds to chat so anything like that even few seconds you’ll take. After just the waiting for all authors panel to start by 10 am.

Fun way to kill time and learn everyone’s books.

Up next was out of my control panel. Which I did since title sounded funny and it was Leigh bardugo, Ashley posten, jayson the guy who wrote miles morales spider man and Kerri M the one who wrote stalking Jack the Ripper. But yea the authors talked about what it was like writing in pre established worlds. With Leigh in wonder women, jayson in spider man, Ashley in Cinderella & new book is anstia, and kerri in Jack the Ripper & Dracula or vlad the impaler. And this was my fav panel and it was hilarious Ashley, leigh and jayson stole the show. And Leigh and jayson joked whose better marvel or Dc.

Up next was the panel for multi points of view. This panel was ok in parts it was nice to know more about aveyards characters and Lisa maxwells but panel it’s self wasn’t to funny so was high on info and when only gotten 4 hours sleep by 1 your starting to feel it. Oh yea forgot to say the panelists were Victoria aveyard, Lisa maxwell, flame caster author & the timekeepers author. But over all tons of info so a fun panel.

Last for panels I didn’t take any photo’s but it was about right about dark books. This panel was hard to grasps for me since I don’t fantasy much. But they tried to explain how to write dark aspects and how make writing better with out it going to far And decide when need to start going back to happy moments. The panelist were Amanda foody, the bone witch author, mask of shadows author which I think is Lindsay miller and traci chee author of the reader.

After that panel day is almost over I always skip the last panel to go to author signing line so can get a head start. And boy can it get super decked out busy. I ended up doing aveyards line and should of done Leigh’s since figured both would be mobbed and of course Leigh’s did I expected, aveyard didn’t as bad. So missed on Leigh to do everyone else. I ended up doing Lisa maxwell, Amanda foody since that’s a must since aquinted friends with her how you know some authors since local. Hunting prince Dracula author and say some things about Audrey since her lust  laying on the line is killing me with her guy from the book. (As can see I’m bad with character names). Then did one of us is lieing author, traci Chee get my arc signed. Then one last long line for Susan dennard since Its her soo nice always and can just start talking from point last met up which was bookcon in june. Didn’t have a book to be signed but got a poster. Which I’ll be hanging up. Last at 5:05 they said closing shop for garages was Ashley poston which she was like i was expecting you to come up since met her a few times to gush about geekerella soooo bad. Sadly couldn’t stay long but nice chat with her.

Before long ride home I went out to eat with Laura, jen and my friend Toronto aka Toronto or real name kellyanne. We were headIng to a place in Boston endEd up being on the road where Fenway park was. End result we went to brewery across the street to Fenway and since had to drive so couldn’t have much so instead of samples I just went for a desert beer

And dam is this thing sooo good. Dark taste with the Choco and went down smooth as hell. I’m dieing for more!! Sadly day was done so got in was 8pm to pre pare for another 6-8 hour drive by this point I was up for 24 hours. And made it to Laura’s by 12. And just ended up crashing their thankfully and most part my trip of the fest.

Cj redwine wine and sign NYC

Few days ago was lucky to have met finally cj redwine which has been on my bucket list for about a year now since I had read the arc of the wish granter. One of my top reads of 2016. But day started out at 5 am and yes heard right 5 am since went to pick my friend Jennifer out in pa. I was supposed to stay the night but night before fell asleep at 7pm so oops… but finally make to the city. Was there early to meet our friend Laura so had walked towards book off on 45th but ended up going to msg on 34th met up then walked to bookoff again. Oy so much walking on the way to bookoff we found by chance a comics store my friend Melissa chats about so much. To our surprise jen finds her last of dr who collection but then doesn’t want to buy it. So she knows but torture part for her is I bought it for Christmas and she is asking to see it x) x) oh well.

Going to be a awhile. Finally went to book off I did well there with Laura I only bought 3 books but when had gone few days earlier I had bought 10 books which this place is insanely cheap used book store.  Finally on our way to train station to pay to learn our line was down so ended up paying 2.75 wasted 😡😡. With out Laura we would of been so lost and my #1 fear is public transportation. Finally make to the place and meet other people In line and makes friends.love that part of signings. Watched as authors came and cj came up to go into the place but before did cane and said hi since saw Laura had one dark throne out and cj said she loves that book. After a few get to go in the place Is very decorate even though it’s sorta outside/ inside garden style hang out and wished taken more photo’s but authors were spaced out and about on different comfy chairs.  Got relaxed. Went to get wine 🍷 since it is a wine and sign event. Chatted with cj again and first line this abdvwas more relaxed and chilled so get more of a 1 on 1 than normal signings slowly then went around meeting the other authors. Bought one romance novel. So overall very fun event if you know the author but was a tad cramped to meet different authors. Finally last hoo rah we were out and headed to the strand which if ever in NYC you should do. And dinner which was soho burger joint by McNally Jackson which I can’t complain about at all. So over all fun day :).

Book haul

So over the weekend technically was Monday I went to NYC with some book friends after having the weekend off and was on vacation and did a roller coaster trip. But went to the city with few friends a few met from NYC signings other from bookcon app but we decided to hit bookoff a thrift store in NYC Thats amazing for discounted books and here was my haul

Before that was the strand and I behaved nicely there and barns and nobles Union square where if ever in NYC go there. Since YA section is unbeatable. But my total purchase for the thrifting was a total of 13 dollars so I’d call that a win.

Bookexpo day 1 and start of my NYC trip

So I’ve been waiting weeks for this adventure to begin since my co blogger is out from Illinois and see all my book friends for days and have dinner all that fun stuff. But day starts off day 1 at 8 am since takes a little bit to take bus from nj to NYC. I picked up my co blogger at her hotel and we were off just only diffrence was diffrent bus line than I was used to and I have a fear of public trans so unsure of the whole thing, but going in is better since last stop is the port authority. So we’re heading to javitz unsure how the day will pan out since it says Bea but the show floor won’t he open so it’s either said pavilion/ ABA something librarians. Ended up being mass sale of books at a cheap price. I wish I had money to buy them, but sadly I’m saving for a new trip in 2 weeks. So our friends which met up with few others all said lets get food and hit the strand and books of wonder.  Saw that and always amazing to stop at them since bow for signed copies and the strand for cheap hard covers, again I didn’t buy anything but my friend Laura found 2 hp books for 2 dollars that’s insane!! After that did 1 dollar pizza of 2 bro’s pizza it’s amazing and love NYC pizza. Last but not least most of us were bloggers so we headed to bloggerbound a event with some authors and people of industry and bloggers of course and how to make your blog better. First panel was called quiet ya and how to make smaller less known books to bring them to light. Myself I read a lot of the big named with occasional smaller but I wanted to learn how get even more attention to a smaller named book thru social media. But I asked what sort of hashtags might help for less known books and thanks to that I received a bag of books one being that book summer book of short stories edited by Stephanie Perkins. And another can remember is radius of us.

Next panel was just a group of bloggers and how to get your name out there. That was fun but I sorta knew a lot of the things so was a refresher course. Then we took a break of cupcakes and the big event is the the bag of arcs which i grabbed a few contemporys I didn’t take a photo was to tired and last but not least trivia with zoraida Cordova. We were split up by tables I was in between 2 so was hard which team deside since i knew most at both tables but ended up on the team that my co blogger wasn’t which was a team of laura and forget rest of team just know them from signings. We named ourselves the bookish brujas just like for zoraida’s book. And we made a good team I didn’t know 2 much but 2 questions everyone was stumped and I was able guess them which one was past blogger bound author and her title is one word about 2 people who steal a car which was run by Kody keplinger. So round 1 ends and were second place. Round 2 was harder but last few answers we guessed which my friend Laura guessed a few and another girl did we ended up being perfect and retallalied and we were # 1 by 2 points last was certain awards and year author received them. Was pure guessing game but we survived and won a bag of arcs which I had chosen Anthology of love triangles and one other book. So from there leaving can see lightning and rush against time to make it back with out getting wet. We made it but didn’t have dinner :(. So just went back and really went to sleep. That was my first day but I knew I was for in a ton with the real opening of book expo. ~~~~JUSTIN
