July wrap up

So for the month of July I did pretty outstanding on reading a ton of books which I did 10 I’ll start from start of month till last read.

1.eliza and her monsters

This book is the book my friends and just all said amazing things for contemporary readers & if you had social anxiety/ introvert it was for you.

2.ringer by Lauren Oliver

This book I was sooo looking forward to after reading replica last year. While replica was boring on lyra’s side this one hit its mark

3.the geeks guide to unrequited love

When started this I was seriously in a need for a contemporary and after much thought finally decided on this. It’s very cute like what if can happen if trying make comic con perfect and at same time wanting to date your best friend for like forever only thing I didn’t like its ending

4.dreadful take of prosperous Redding by Alexandra bracken

Going into this one I was looking foward to just was unsure if I would after passenger series I disliked but loved the darkest minds but I ended up loving this and it’s amazing read for fall and Halloween and highly suggest it.

5.prince In disguise

Going into this book it sounded cute all ready minus the reality tv part. But oh my god it was soooo fluffy cute!!!  I loved it for the most part minus one thing

6.warcross by Marie lu

This game *ahem* mean book was very good and this was my first ever book by her. But highly suggest and gamers should love it.

7.spells and sorcery

Going into this book was finally feeling more of another dose of wanting fall so what better way then going with witches :). This book was mostly training but big time witchy element so I look forward to book 2.

Phew seems like taking forever I read a ton!!!

8. & 9.gunslinger girl & greetings from witness protection

I did these together since photo is of both of them. But gunslinger girl was way western style than I thought and felt more like a carnival book Instead. But overall was ok but wanted more gun action. And greetings from witsec was ok. I give it a pass since was middle grade but I haven’t read a book about someone in witness protection since zach’s lie and read it back in 6th grade and loved it. So if want stories from middle grade and friendship I say this book is for you.

At last my last book read in July also witness protection. Was 10. rules for disappearing.

My second witsec book and I enjoyed this one a lot more since there was a lot more fear and confusion going on and on top of that the guy for mc’s love interest was down right amazing.

So my fav few reads of this month have to say 1. Prince in disguise #2. Alexandra brackens new book #3 warcross #4the geeks guide unrequited love #eliza and her monsters and last rules for disappearing

Bea day 2 and haul

Well first day was a blast hung with my friends  all day which usually is only a few hours. But morning started out much later since my co blogger Stacy and I decided we wanted to sleep in even I did wanted to meet Neil Patrick Harris I still skipped it. But other than that just same old day going around at booths trying talk with publishing houses on contemporary’s that they liked that is up coming. But to say first thing in AM was unearthly by Amie Kaufman and Meagan spooner start of a new series at Disney Hyperion which is sick then from there was a lot of roaming. The things that stick out are wonder women which I give props to penguin people started lining up 2 hours in advanced and a line got started that a massed fast and it got penguin by surprise since was out of the booth but instead of penguin saying no to it they let the unofficial line become the real one. Which example at yallfest macmillian refused to do that even though was nice organized line for crown of wishes and made it a free for all stampede literally…. Only other thing that stick out was owlcrate made my day by doing a arc drop of lucky in love by kasie west and my first arc of hers 😍😍 so can’t wait to dig Into it. So another day ended only thing I was sad was my co blogger is leaving next day which won’t see till ALA. But for that evening we did food at Outback Steakhouse my fav and she met one of my best friends Kelly and had a fun time. So that was my basic day I know only thing you want to see is my book haul.

Bookexpo day 1 and start of my NYC trip

So I’ve been waiting weeks for this adventure to begin since my co blogger is out from Illinois and see all my book friends for days and have dinner all that fun stuff. But day starts off day 1 at 8 am since takes a little bit to take bus from nj to NYC. I picked up my co blogger at her hotel and we were off just only diffrence was diffrent bus line than I was used to and I have a fear of public trans so unsure of the whole thing, but going in is better since last stop is the port authority. So we’re heading to javitz unsure how the day will pan out since it says Bea but the show floor won’t he open so it’s either said pavilion/ ABA something librarians. Ended up being mass sale of books at a cheap price. I wish I had money to buy them, but sadly I’m saving for a new trip in 2 weeks. So our friends which met up with few others all said lets get food and hit the strand and books of wonder.  Saw that and always amazing to stop at them since bow for signed copies and the strand for cheap hard covers, again I didn’t buy anything but my friend Laura found 2 hp books for 2 dollars that’s insane!! After that did 1 dollar pizza of 2 bro’s pizza it’s amazing and love NYC pizza. Last but not least most of us were bloggers so we headed to bloggerbound a event with some authors and people of industry and bloggers of course and how to make your blog better. First panel was called quiet ya and how to make smaller less known books to bring them to light. Myself I read a lot of the big named with occasional smaller but I wanted to learn how get even more attention to a smaller named book thru social media. But I asked what sort of hashtags might help for less known books and thanks to that I received a bag of books one being that book summer book of short stories edited by Stephanie Perkins. And another can remember is radius of us.

Next panel was just a group of bloggers and how to get your name out there. That was fun but I sorta knew a lot of the things so was a refresher course. Then we took a break of cupcakes and the big event is the the bag of arcs which i grabbed a few contemporys I didn’t take a photo was to tired and last but not least trivia with zoraida Cordova. We were split up by tables I was in between 2 so was hard which team deside since i knew most at both tables but ended up on the team that my co blogger wasn’t which was a team of laura and forget rest of team just know them from signings. We named ourselves the bookish brujas just like for zoraida’s book. And we made a good team I didn’t know 2 much but 2 questions everyone was stumped and I was able guess them which one was past blogger bound author and her title is one word about 2 people who steal a car which was run by Kody keplinger. So round 1 ends and were second place. Round 2 was harder but last few answers we guessed which my friend Laura guessed a few and another girl did we ended up being perfect and retallalied and we were # 1 by 2 points last was certain awards and year author received them. Was pure guessing game but we survived and won a bag of arcs which I had chosen Anthology of love triangles and one other book. So from there leaving can see lightning and rush against time to make it back with out getting wet. We made it but didn’t have dinner :(. So just went back and really went to sleep. That was my first day but I knew I was for in a ton with the real opening of book expo. ~~~~JUSTIN

Four Weeks, Five People by Jennifer Yu (dual blog post)

Going into this book I was in much need of lighterish real world book since I just done acowar, obsidian and stars and the black witch 2 which are 500+ pages so I’m fantasy’ed out top it off some issues came up in my real world so I need fluffier stuff so expect contemporary binge.  So this book starts out with meeting the cast of this book as there heading to camp. You saying oooo there about to go fun camp but your wrong. There going to camp to help reflect on life and get better since each character each has a flaw like Andrew has a eating disorder, mason is just to into himself, Ben has to much up’s and downs. Stella no idea her issue never did figure it out and Clarissa has OCD where most has to end at 7. So going into this book most self help books have a theme like start off so negative then slowly characters see a change slowly get more confident and better well in this just my oppion on it was it missed its mark. Since didn’t have as much reflecting of that and now focusing just on daily life. Closest one who i think had a issue was drew surprising with his eating disorder and what goes thru the mind, I can say that not me but I dated someone who has a disorder and sounded like her. So thru whole book I’m cheering Andrew on. Other more relatable characters I’d cheer for is Ben and Clarissa. But besides drew. Other characters just didn’t seem to flow that well and reason didn’t think this worked to its conclusion. Soo def lighter than read but was a no go 3/5 stars ~~~~~~JUSTIN

“I can feel the words getting louder and louder with every bounce back until they are vibrating through my head until they are vibrating through my body until they are everything until they are inside me until I am light until I am stars until I am a supernova until I am nothing but words ringing in an infinity of space.”

This was labeled as one of the summers top reads and I’m trying to figure out why!? The synopsis is a y.a.’s wet dream and it was extremely hard to make a connection. The story was slow moving with characters that were very stereotyped and cry-babyish. I don’t see myself recommending this to anyone.

Five teens come together for four weeks at a wilderness therapy summer camp. They all have their own problems that they are all trying to overcome. With each chapter we get the separate views of each individual character as you learn why they are really at this camp.

Clarissa is obsessive compulsive, Mason believes everyone is an idiot but him, Ben would rather live in a fictional world, Andrew has an eating disorder which he thinks ruined his chance at his band becoming big and Stella is the bitch of the group who has trust issues.

Some of these teens has more bigger issues than the other, but they all know that they need help. With a set schedule they will be able to better handle their situation while also breaking some of the rules.

Will this camp help them overcome their illnesses to have a better life and have a better outlook to the future?

I liked the idea of this camp who helps teens deal with their issues. It’s unique compared to all the other mental health ya books out in the world, but I couldn’t look past the darkness of most of the characters. They tried a little bit too hard to come off as rule breaking. I didn’t see the point of that.

The only character that I felt was genuine was Andrew. His story was the most heartbreaking out of them all and I hope she furthers his story.

The cover is very appealing, but I’m confused by the blandness of the title. I’m sure if she put more thought into it she could have come up with a better title.

Disappointing!

2/5 *Stacy*

Stalking Jack the Ripper

This book sat on my book case for ever and ever. I’m sad I waited so long to read it. This book is about a girl Audrey wadsworth who in secret is learning her uncles trade of being a coroner which at a time when women were only supposed to have kids, cook the food and gossip about petty things over tea with the other women of the rich. While learning this trade, slowly people are getting murdered mostly prostitutes. The thing about these murderes there extremely grousome some of the worst there country has ever seen. These are the older days which forget the year so these horrific crimes are not common slowly Audrey has determined to find out who the murder was since her, her uncle and one of her students finds the facts of things they forensics. Only thing was fully sure but page 85 I took my guess who the murderer was and i guessed right. But even with this and talking about gruesome images and as watch in your mind how Audrey is disecting the bodies I look foward to book 2. 5/5 ~~~~ JUSTIN

A poison dark and drowning by jessica cluess

This is book 2 of a shadow bright and burning.

This by far with perfect by felcia ahern and few other books is my most #1 anticipated read. Thank you aurora for the lend it means the world since I talked book 1 soo much.  But this starts off where last book started with Henrietta has now became queens sorcer since she helped kill one of the ancients. The question now is slowly in book 1 rook was slowly getting sicker since he is unclean and goes further into that can Henrietta help him get better or turn into the monster she is afraid he will be. There is other things you learn that makes this book pretty curious but I won’t spoil that. But finally to say I still loved this book but first 150 pages to near 200 had not a lot going for it minus a short quest for some items that might help defeat all the ancients. Last but not least still going into this book it’s still a love triangle or squarish but majority it’s 2 people Henrietta has feelings for and I’m happy for now my ship is intact :). Hoping it stays that way. And not often do I read a book where I’m sooo heavly invested who Henrietta dates but this one is. Last one to that was born at midnight series which is amazing and by cc hunter. So over all 5/5 stars and now has became in category of all time fav series spot.  Sooo please please read book 1 if you haven’t if you have pre order this since such amazing series and great covers trust me look at them ;). 5/5 stars 😍~~~~ JUSTIN
